Our AMHIC team is led by senior executives with extensive experience in benefits administration and management for not-for-profit organizations, dedicated to excellence and outstanding customer service for our members.

    Christopher J. Bartnik CLU, RHU, REBC
    Captive Manager

    In addition to serving as AMHIC's captive manager, Chris Bartnik is the Chesapeake Region Health and Welfare Practice Leader at Wells Fargo Insurance Services. Mr. Bartnik has over 14 years of experience in the employee benefits field and has extensive knowledge in managing employee benefit programs from both an employer and consultant perspective.

    Prior to joining Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Mr. Bartnik was the Director of Vendor Relations for the Ahold USA Corporate Benefits Department. In this role he had plan design, administration, and vendor management responsibilities for health and welfare programs covering eleven operating companies with employee populations ranging from 150 to 20,000 lives (35,000 employees in total) and an annual budget in excess of $250 million. While at Ahold USA, Mr. Bartnik was the project leader for an enterprise-wide initiative to standardize benefit plan offerings and consolidate vendors that yielded savings of $11.5 million. He also oversaw the implementation of an outsourced benefits administrator with responsibility for enrollment, fulfillment, bill reconciliation and eligibility services.

    Mr. Bartnik has also worked as an Associate for Mercer Human Resources Consulting where he worked with numerous local employers including Lockheed Martin, Bureau of National Affairs, Ritz Camera Centers, Nextel, Howard Hughes Medical Institute and XO Communications. He has also held positions with New York Life, Oppenheimer & Company and Merrill Lynch.

    Mr. Bartnik graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Insurance. He also received his MBA in Marketing and Finance from The Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Bartnik is a Chartered Life Underwrite (CLU), a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), and a Registered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC).


    Rhona N. Byer
    Director of Program Support Services

    Rhona Byer began working for AMHIC in January 2004. She has extensive experience working for various not-for-profit associations in the areas of contracts, accounting, budgeting, and human resources.

    For 18 years, Ms. Byer worked at the American Council on Education as grants and contracts administrator, controller, and assistant director of human resources. She also served as the plan manager for the Washington Higher Education Secretariat Multiple Employer Trust, providing health and dental insurance to higher education associations. In addition, she has worked for The Brookings Institution, The Institute of International Finance, The Personnel Office, and The Association of American Law Schools.

    Ms. Byer has been active in the Finance and Administration Roundtable, serving on its Board and Program Committee. In addition, she is a member of the American Society for Association Executives, Society for Human Resource Management, and the Human Resource Association of the National Capital Area

    Ms. Byer graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.
